Our Success Story
I started selling Avon when I was 17 under my mom's name. I was able to earn enough with my sales to pay for gas and insurance on my car. Also, I wanted to buy my own clothes because my mom couldn't afford it. My first goal then was to buy my high school graduation ring and I did.
Then, I left to serve in the US Army and served our country for five years. There, I met my gorgeous man Carlos, married and had our three children, Ian, Alyssa and Austin in that order. I worked for a private company for two years and I got hired with the Miami Dade County after applying for two years. We worked hard and achieved a few of our dreams like buying our first two homes. It still wasn't enough. I wanted more and to be able to own my own business. I took a realtor class and decided that real estate wasn't for me. It was stressful and not what I wanted. .
I bought Avon from my neighbor who later quit. I was her helper. When she stopped selling, my coworkers kept asking me about Avon. I called to sign up and after two weeks of not getting a response I drove to the Miami Sales Center and signed up. I started selling at work and for my own use. When money was tight and not enough I started looking online to get work from home alternatives. Then I saw Avon work from home. I then knew I had to make it work.
I was already Presidents Club. I started doing the power of 3, when I read it and that worked. Customers started rolling in. Then, I did two fundraisers at my son's daycare to pay for summer camp for parents who couldn't afford it. I went from selling $400 to $3000 and even $5000 per campaign. Then I attended an Avon convention in Orlando and heard Vondell McKenzie. She said that if she can do it, I could too. So, I joined leadership.
I placed an ad on the paper and recruited over 50 representatives. I felt confident about what I could do and talked to Carlos about quitting my job with the County. I did. We relocated to Naples and bought our dream retirement home. At the beginning it was hard. I learned as I went. I had a vision of our future and being there for our children was worth persevering. I knew that this business was a numbers game. I thank my former Avon DVM Judy Hunter, who retired and Teresa Snyder, my other former manager who insisted that I could do it.
When, I reached Executive Unit Leader, I wanted to get to Senior Executive Unit Leader in 1 year and I did. It took me 2 1/2 years to reach Senior Executive Unit Leader from the time I started. I was making almost 3 times more than my government job of 7 years, almost $50,000 with Avon from home, doing what I loved. I didn't get to keep my title after two years. However, my perseverance helped to keep and increase my earnings as an EUL. My job now is to teach women, specifically, Spanish women that they can too. I love what Avon has done to change our lives. I have learned that before you can get your partner to support you, you must stay strong and focused on your goals. When your partner sees that you mean it, and sees the earnings, your partner is sure to follow. I asked Carlos to give me 2 years in order to prove to him that I can replace my job and get to SEUL. It took me 2 1/2 years to get to SEUL. Everyone can do it. I did.
Find two good people and work with them. Then, the rest is building units. I had 4 executives in my business. Three achieved it in less than 6 months. One in 3 campaigns, another in less than 3 months from becoming a representative. It's up to you and your superstar to get there. Find your superstar, through prospecting and working your vision of what this business can do. Build a momentum and change the things that don't work. Understand that everyone is responsible for building their individual business and you are their support. It might not be the right time for them and that's ok. Believe in your success.
